Cleveland Clinic

Cleveland Clinic is a nonprofit multispecialty academic medical center that integrates clinical and hospital care with research and education. U.S. News & World Report consistently names Cleveland Clinic as one of the nation’s best hospitals in its annual “America’s Best Hospitals” survey with a No. 4 overall ranking in the 2009 issue. The Sydell and Arnold Miller Family Heart & Vascular Institute heart program has been ranked number one in America for 15 consecutive years and the Clinic’s programs in urology, rheumatology and gastrointestinal disorders all rank among the nation’s top two. The Clinic also ranks among the nation’s top ten in gynecology, orthopaedics, head and neck, nephrology (kidney disease), neurology and neurological surgery, pulmonary (respiratory disorders), geriatrics, and endocrinology. Founded in 1921, Cleveland Clinic employs nearly 30,000 employees, including more than 2,000 physicians and scientists on staff, representing 120 specialties and subspecialties. Cleveland Clinic operates an extensive system of regional hospitals in a variety of Northeast Ohio communities, along with Cleveland Clinic Florida, a full-service hospital and clinic in Weston, Florida, and Cleveland Clinic Canada, a health and wellness center in Toronto. In 2008, the Cleveland Clinic health system recorded 4.2 million total visits and more than 165,000 hospital admissions. Other Cleveland Clinic specialties noted for national excellence include ophthalmology, cancer, pediatrics and rehabilitation.

University Hospitals

University Hospitals, one of the nation’s leading health care systems, provides quality medical care to patients at convenient locations throughout Northeast Ohio. The UH system includes a major academic medical center, community hospitals, outpatient health centers, outpatient surgery centers, urgent care centers, cancer centers, rehabilitation facilities, pediatric specialty centers and mental health facilities, as well as joint venture and partnership hospitals and health centers. The flagship medical center, University Hospitals Case Medical Center, is the primary teaching affiliate of Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. Together, UH Case Medical Center and CWRU School of Medicine form the largest biomedical research center in Ohio. UH Case Medical Center, located in Cleveland’s University Circle, offers a full range of primary and specialty care for adults and children, and includes UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital, UH MacDonald Women’s Hospital and UH Ireland Cancer Center. An extensive network of primary care and specialist physicians ensures that seamless, well coordinated health care is delivered to our patients throughout the region. The MetroHealth System

The MetroHealth System is one of the largest health care providers in Northeast Ohio, providing care to nearly 28,000 inpatients, including nearly 3,000 newborns annually, with 800,000 annual outpatient visits and 90,000 patient visits to the Emergency Room. More than 500 primary care and specialty care physicians practice within The MetroHealth System. Affiliated since 1914 with Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine, MetroHealth is a center for medical research and education, with all active staff physicians holding Case faculty appointments. MetroHealth receives $40 million in federal and grant funding for research each year in a variety of areas including cardiology, diabetes and metabolic disorders, and maternal/fetal medicine. The MetroHealth System is comprised of a major medical center- MetroHealth Medical Center, a rehabilitation hospital, two long-term care/skilled nursing centers, an outpatient surgery center, and a network of community-based health centers. MetroHealth specializes in trauma, emergency and critical care; women's and children's services, including high-risk obstetrical care and neonatal intensive care; orthopaedics; heart and vascular care; cancer care; senior health; stroke and rehabilitation.

Summa Health System

Summa Health System is one of the largest integrated delivery systems in Ohio. Encompassing a network of hospitals, community health centers, a health plan, a physician-hospital organization, a multi-specialty physician organization, research and multiple foundations, Summa is nationally renowned for excellence in patient care and for exceptional approaches to healthcare delivery. Summa's clinical services are consistently recognized by U.S. News and World Report, HealthGrades, Thomson Reuters and The Leapfrog Group. Summa is a founding partner of the Austen BioInnovation Institute in Akron. The Summa Health System includes Summa Akron City, Summa St. Thomas, Summa Western Reserve, Summa Barberton, Summa Wadsworth Rittman, and Summa affiliate Robinson Memorial campuses with more than 2,000 licensed beds, 8,000 full-time employees, 1,000 credentialed physicians, and nearly 300 resident physicians.

Akron General Medical Center

Founded in 1914 as Peoples Hospital, Akron General Medical Center has grown to a 511-bed, 26-bassinet, adult, tertiary-care, not-for-profit teaching hospital. Today, it is staffed by more than 1,000 physicians, 3,400 healthcare professionals and support staff and 550 volunteers who serve a population of more than 1.2 million people throughout Summit, Medina, Portage, Stark and Wayne Counties of Northeast Ohio. As a major teaching hospital, Akron General trains future physicians through 11 high-quality medical residency programs. Akron General is a teaching affiliate of the Northeastern Ohio Universities Colleges of Medicine and Pharmacy, a State of Ohio facility that serves as the Medical College of the University of Akron, Kent State University and Youngstown State University. Akron General offers regional referral centers in Cardiovascular Medicine, Cardiac Surgery, Cancer Care, Orthopaedics, Sports Medicine and Women's Health. The Medical Center provides the highest level of emergency services, Level One Trauma, and is an area leader in diagnostic and outpatient services with community locations in Akron, Green, Stow, Tallmadge and West Akron and an additional off-campus outpatient surgery center.Akron General Medical Center owns and operates the area's only hospital specializing in rehabilitation - Edwin Shaw Rehabilitation Institute - just north of Akron in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Akron Children’s Hospital

From humble beginnings as a day nursery in 1890, Akron Children’s Hospital has evolved into the largest pediatric health care system in northeast Ohio, operating two freestanding pediatric hospitals and offering services at nearly 80 locations across the region and drawing more than half a million patients each year from all 50 states and around the world. The main campus in downtown Akron houses regional centers for genetics, fetal treatment, cancer and blood disorders, heart, palliative care, orthopedics, pediatric trauma, pediatric intensive care, and level III neonatal intensive care. Akron Children’s is also one of only two pediatric hospitals in the country that operates a burn center for both adults and children. The Beeghly Campus in Boardman is home to a 32-bed pediatric inpatient unit; a pediatric ER; a center for childhood cancer and blood disorders; a special care nursery; pediatric endocrinology; an infusion center; and EEG/ECHO/EKG, radiology, laboratory and rehabilitation services. Akron Children’s also operates a 33-bed neonatal special care nursery at St. Elizabeth Health Center and provides pediatric services at Akron General Medical Center and seven other regional hospitals, along with 15 offices in seven counties including Cuyahoga, Medina, Wayne, Tuscawaras and Portage. Akron Children’s is a major teaching affiliate of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine and Pharmacy, and offers 11 subspecialty fellowship training programs. Two years ago, Children’s launched Ohio’s first and only pediatric medical transport helicopter, known as Air Bear.

Sisters of Charity Health System

The Sisters of Charity Health System was established in 1982 as the parent corporation for the sponsored ministries of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine in Ohio and South Carolina. The Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, since its founding in 1851, continue their faith-based legacy of high-quality, compassionate care in partnership with its co-ministers who are the heart and hands of the ministry.

The Sisters of Charity Health System solely owns four Catholic hospitals: St. Vincent Charity Medical Center in Cleveland, Mercy Medical Center in Canton, Providence Hospital and Providence Northeast in Columbia, South Carolina. In a joint venture with University Hospitals of Cleveland, the Sisters of Charity Health System also sponsors St. John Medical Center in Westlake, Ohio. The organization also oversees three grant-making foundations located in Cleveland and Canton, Ohio, and Columbia, South Carolina. Each foundation sponsors significant community initiatives and collaborations that address causes and consequences of poverty. Other health and human services and education-related organizations within the Sisters of Charity Health System include Cleveland’s Joseph’s Home, a unique residential care center for homeless men; Canton’s Early Childhood Resource Center, for people working in childcare in all settings; and Healthy Learners, a South Carolina health care resource for children from low-income families. The Sisters of Charity Health System also provides residential eldercare services at Regina Health Center in Richfield, Ohio, and Light of Hearts Villa in Bedford, Ohio. Light of Hearts Villa is jointly sponsored by the Sisters of Charity of Cincinnati.
